to replace the visage of the Mona Lisa. Qian zhijun has been invited to
star in a Hollywood thriller film. [xiaopang.cn]

The Chongqing Evening News says New Line Cinema, a major Hollywood film
studio, is inviting Qian Zhijun, commonly known as Xiao Pang or Little
Fatty, to star in a film adaptation of "Ghost Blows Out the Light," a
popular Chinese online novel about a group of tomb raiders and their
mysterious adventures in ancient tombs.

Sources from New Line Cinema suggest Xiao Pang is perfect for the role
because he and the novel share a common popularity among Internet users.

The 19-year-old's chubby face has become a favorite tool for Chinese
Internet users to practice their Photoshop skills -- many use his face to
replace the visages of such famous icons as Harry Potter, Austin Powers
and the Mona Lisa.

With little acting background, Xiao Pang is actively preparing for any
possible auditions, according to the report.

The actor for another leading character is reportedly to be selected from
well-known Hong Kong stars.

The novel "Ghost Blows Out the Light" debuted as a smash hit on the
Internet back in March last year, and was later released in printed form
in October.

Previous reports suggest that New Line Cinema hopes to create a Harry
Potter-style series, with several installments.

Learn mandarin - NBA about to get fourth Chinese player in 7-foot Yi Jianlian

Sports / NBA Draft 2007

NBA about to get fourth Chinese player in 7-foot Yi Jianlian

(AP)
Updated: 2007-06-28 14:18

BEIJING _ They love Yao. Now comes Yi.

That's Yi Jianlian, the 7-foot (2.13-meter) power forward who will be
picked high in Thursday's NBA draft.

He'll be the fourth Chinese to make the NBA, but will he have an impact
like the Houston Rockets Yao Ming? Or will his stay be short, matching
those of Wang Zhizhi and Mengke Bateer who had modest NBA careers.

Yi (pronounced Ee) is a mystery in an NBA draft in which American college
players Greg Oden and Kevin Durant are expected to go 1-2. Speculation
has Yi going as high as No. 3, and most think he'll be picked in the top
10.

"Yi the X-factor in jackpot draft," read a recent headline in the
state-run China Daily newspaper.

If Yi makes it big, it will be even easier for the NBA to make deeper
inroads into China, where basketball is very popular. About 300 million
Chinese play the game, and NBA jerseys are a badge for teenage boys, just
as they are in the United States.

Nobody questions Yi's deft shooting touch from the wing, his ability to
run the floor and his soft hands and athletic body. Some compare him with
David Robinson or Pau Gasol.

But there are doubts.

_ Can he play defense, and is he strong enough to compete in the NBA?

_ And his age. The Chinese Basektball Association lists his birthday as
October 27, 1987 _ 19 at draft time. But some believe he's about three
years older. Teams might give a 19 year-old time to develop, but a
22-year-old is expected to be a finished product.

"He's definitely a great athlete who can be an NBA project for any team,"
said Xia Song, an NBA analyst on Beijing's BTV. "The draft is hard to
predict unless you are a Yao Ming or LeBron James or Michael Jordan."

Yi played on China's 2004 Olympic team and the 2006 World Championship
team. And his numbers were impressive this season in the Chinese
Basketball Association with the Guangdong Tigers _ averaging 25 points
and 12 rebounds.

"Every international player _ every Chinese player _ is going to need
time to adjust to the American culture, to the NBA, to the lockerroom,"
Xia added. "It is going to take time. But he's young, he's a very smart
kid and he will be able to handle it very well."

Bruce O'Neil, president of the United States Basketball Academy in
Eugene, Ore., has watched Yi for several years. The USBA has a long-term
consulting agreement with the CBA.

"I think he's the least known player in the draft," said O'Neil, who
returned this week to the United States from China.

"Some teams in the NBA have done their homework on him _ some haven't,"
O'Neil said. "For me he's a multidimensional talent _ a top-five pick for
sure. Of course they play different positions, but he's stronger than Yao
was at this point in his career."

For marketing purposes, Yi might prefer going to a city with a large
Chinese population. His English is basic, but better than Yao's when he
was picked five years ago. Yi has been in the United States for several
weeks adjusting and, unlike the three Chinese who played before him,
he'll be on hand to witness his selection.

Learn mandarin - Castro says Bush 'authorized' his death

WORLD / America

Castro says Bush 'authorized' his death

(AP)
Updated: 2007-06-26 09:25

HAVANA - Fidel Castro on Monday accused President Bush of "authorizing
and ordering" an attempt on his life, although his essay on the subject
provided no details.

A man walks past a graffiti that reads in Spanish 'Long live Fidel' in a
street of Havana, Thursday, June 21, 2007. [AP]

American law now prohibits the US government from ordering the
assassination of foreign leaders, but declassified US documents have
shown that the CIA made numerous attempts to kill Castro in the early
years after the 1959 Cuban revolution.

Castro's essay noted that President Gerald Ford signed an order banning
official assassinations, and said he didn't believe that Presidents Jimmy
Carter and Bill Clinton ever tried to have him killed.

But Castro alleged that Bush has other ideas.

Now 80, Castro hasn't been seen in public in the 11 months since he
underwent emergency intestinal surgery. Cuba's provisional government is
being led by his younger brother Raul while he recovers. Meanwhile, he's
become a prolific essay writer. In one, on May 29, Castro accused Bush of
renewing US attempts to assassinate him.

"I'm not the first, nor will I be the last, whom Bush has ordered to be
deprived of life," Castro wrote then.

His latest essay, signed Sunday afternoon and published Monday in state
media, referred to that May 29 allegation.

"Why did I say one day in a reflection that Bush authorized or ordered my
death? This phrase can seem ambiguous and imprecise," Castro wrote.
"Perhaps it would be more exact, although even more confusing, to say
that he authorized it and ordered it."

Castro promised to explain himself, but never did, writing only that
"really it is a mystery to name those responsible for the hundreds of
attempts on my life, all the direct and indirect forms to cause my death
were used."

The White House had no reaction to Castro's statement.

Chinese School - HRT may prevent heart symptoms in younger women

HRT may prevent heart symptoms in younger women

(Agencies)
Updated: 2007-06-22 01:54

Younger women who start taking estrogen as soon as they enter menopause
may be protected from heart disease, researchers said on Wednesday.

Younger women who start taking estrogen as soon as they enter menopause
may be protected from heart disease, researchers said on Wednesday. They
found that women aged 50 to 59 who took estrogen were 30 percent to 40
percent less likely than women taking placebos to have large amounts of
calcified plaque in their arteries -- a widely accepted predictor of
heart attack risk. [Reuters]

They found that women aged 50 to 59 who took estrogen were 30 percent to
40 percent less likely than women taking placebos to have large amounts
of calcified plaque in their arteries -- a widely accepted predictor of
heart attack risk.

When women took their estrogen religiously, the risk was 60 percent
lower, they reported in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. JoAnn Manson of Harvard Medical School's Brigham and Women's
Hospital, who led the study, said the results should be reassuring to
women in their 50s who have been taking estrogen for their menopausal
symptoms.

But, she stressed, hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, is not completely
safe and women should not take it unless they have a good reason to.

"Hormone therapy should not be used for the express purpose of preventing
cardiovascular disease due to other known risks, and it should be limited
to treatment of menopausal symptoms at the lowest dose for the shortest
duration necessary," Manson said in a telephone interview.

"So I do not believe it should be started in all women for the purpose of
protecting their hearts."

Manson led the original Women's Health Initiative study, which found in
2002 that hormone replacement therapy raised the risk of blood clots,
breast cancer and heart attacks.

Many women stopped taking HRT, although researchers at the time noted
that many women in their study were well past menopause, with an average
age of 63.

"There are still many women out there with moderate to severe symptoms
who are not seeking treatment because they are concerned that estrogen
could increase the risk of heart disease and other health problems,"
Manson said in a telephone interview.

REASSURING EVIDENCE

Manson led a new analysis of the original study. The new finding, based
on 1,064 women, "does provide some additional reassurance for women who
have been denying themselves relief," she said.

Robert Rebar, executive director of the American Society for Reproductive
Medicine, said, "We are clearly learning that the benefits of estrogen in
young, healthy, symptomatic, postmenopausal women outweigh the risks."

A medical consultant for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, which makes the hormone
therapy products used in the study, told reporters in a telephone
briefing that many women should be put on estrogen when they hit
menopause and stay on it indefinitely.

Howard Hodis, a heart specialist at the University of Southern
California, said there is "absolutely no evidence that if you start a
women (on estrogen) at menopause at, say age 51, and continue that until
she's 80, that her risk goes up as she gets older."

The only important statistic, he said, is that continued estrogen therapy
helps women live longer.

"If you have a drug that reduces overall mortality, why wouldn't we use
it? It's the best product for reducing bone loss," Hodis said.

Michelle Warren of the Columbia University College of Physicians and
Surgeons, another Wyeth consultant, said it is impossible to know when to
stop taking the hormones.

"There are downsides to stopping estrogen," she said, suggesting that the
new study shows that heart disease may accelerate if women stop. Other
studies show bone loss becomes a problem as well.

"If you've been on the hormone since the time of menopause, I'm not
worried anymore," Warren said.

Chinese Lesson - Putin suggests new missile shield site

WORLD / America

Putin suggests new missile shield site

(AP)
Updated: 2007-06-08 00:45

Russian President Vladimir Putin, bitterly opposed to a U.S. missile
shield in Eastern Europe, told President Bush on Thursday that Moscow
would drop its objections if the system were installed in Azerbaijan.

Vladimir Putin at the G8 summit in Heiligendamm June 7, 2007. U.S.

ahead of a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a Group of
Eight (G8) summit in Germany. [REUTERS]

Putin told Bush he would not seek to retarget Russian missiles on Europe
if the United States agreed to put the radar-based system in Azerbaijan,
a former Soviet republic bordering the Caspian Sea.

Bush's reaction to Putin's idea was: "Interesting proposal -- let's let
our experts have a look at it," according to White House National
Security Adviser Steve Hadley. Hadley was in their hourlong meeting on
the sidelines of a summit of the world's eight major industrialized
democracies -- the leaders' first since the dispute erupted earlier this
year.

Bush has proposed basing the radar in the Czech Republic and interceptor
rockets in Poland, rousing Moscow's suspicions that a system built in its
backyard had to be aimed at it. The United States insisted the shield was
aimed at any potential nuclear threat from Iran, not Russia, but Moscow
declared the explanation "insufficient" as recently as Wednesday night.

With the dispute flaring in recent days into Cold War-style rhetoric and
threats from Moscow, Putin's proposal to put the system in Azerbaijan
came as a surprise.

U.S. officials were clearly scrambling to react afterward, huddling
hurriedly before trying to explain it to the press.

"I think President Putin wanted to de-escalate the tensions a little bit
on this issue, and I think it was a useful thing that he did," Hadley
told a few reporters.

Putin said the existing radar station, built during Soviet times, is
rented by Russia under a continuing agreement between Russia and
Azerbaijan.

He argued the benefits of his suggested substitute: An Azerbaijan-based
system would cover all of Europe rather than just part of it, and
destroyed missile debris would fall in the ocean rather than on land.

Appearing together before reporters, Bush spoke before Putin and did not
mention the alternative presented by his Russian counterpart, saying only
that Putin "made some interesting suggestions."

The two leaders agreed to discuss the issue further during two days of
talks beginning July 1 in Kennebunkport, Maine, at the Bush family's
oceanfront compound. Lower-level officials in both governments also plan
to explore it.

"This will be a serious set of strategic discussions," Bush said. "This
is a serious issue, and we want to make sure that we all understand each
other's positions very clearly."

The Russian leader said the proposed relocation would alleviate Russia's
concerns about a European missile shield. "This will make it unnecessary
for us to place our offensive complexes along the border with Europe,"
Putin said.

He laid out several other conditions, as well:

* Taking Russia's concerns into account.

* Giving all sides "equal access" to the system.

* Making the development of the system transparent.

"Then we will have no problem," the Russian leader said.

He also warned the United States not to proceed with building the system
as planned while negotiations with Moscow take place.

"We hope these consultations will not serve as cover for some unilateral
action," Putin said.

Hadley did not rule out the possibility that the end result would be some
mix of the Russian and the U.S. proposals.

"We asked the Russians to cooperate with us on missile defense, and I
think what we got is a willingness to do so," Hadley said after the
Bush-Putin meeting.

U.S. Missile Defense Agency spokesman Rick Lehner said he didn't known
whether Putin's proposal would work. "I don't know if there have been any
studies done that would consider the geometry on places like Azerbaijan,"
he said.

The agency looked at all of Europe and "the interceptor and radar sites
that met our requirements were Poland and the Czech Republic," Lehner
said. The plan for two countries rather than one was considered more
effective because it gives more time to track the missile, he said.

Both sides portrayed Putin's idea -- far from becoming a reality -- as
proof that the U.S.-Russia relationship has not fallen so far as people
have speculated amid the dispute. The leaders said they agreed Iran is
the threat to focus on, not each other.

"We have an understanding about common threats, but we have differences,"
Putin said.

He declared himself "satisfied with the spirit of openness" he
encountered in Bush. The U.S. president said they had demonstrated they
share "the desire to work together to allay people's fears."

The two leaders, at loggerheads for weeks ahead of the much-anticipated
meeting, appeared friendly as they spoke on the grounds of the upscale
resort here where the summit is being held. They stood so close they
often touched.

"I'd like to confirm what the president of the United States has said --
except for one thing: I've not said that friends do not act in this way,"
Putin said, to which both laughed heartily and jostled each other.

There are many items on the disagreement list between Washington and
Moscow.

Russia is unhappy about U.S. support for independence for the breakaway
Serbian province of Kosovo. It bristles at what it sees as U.S. meddling
in its affairs and its traditional sphere of influence.

Washington, meanwhile, is getting fed up with Putin for overseeing what
the U.S. perceives as an era of muzzled dissent and centralized power.

Chinese Online Class - Japan minister commits suicide

WORLD / Asia-Pacific

Japan minister commits suicide

(AP)
Updated: 2007-05-28 21:33

TOKYO - A scandal-tainted minister in Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's cabinet
committed suicide on Monday, compounding problems for the Japanese leader
whose support has slumped ahead of a July election.

It was the first suicide by a Japanese cabinet minister since the days
after Japan's defeat in World War Two, according to officials at the
national library.

"This will have serious political fallout, but at this point it's hard to
tell how much," a government official told Reuters.

Agriculture Minister Toshikatsu Matsuoka's suicide came as Abe's public
support rate fell to its lowest level since he took office last
September, due largely to voter anger over mismanagement of pension
premiums that could shortchange retirees.

The dent in Abe's popularity had already increased chances that his
ruling camp would lose its majority in the election for parliament's
upper house, his first big test at the polls.

Matsuoka, 62, under fire for a series of political funding scandals, died
in hospital after he was found unconscious in his room at a Tokyo
residential complex for lawmakers.

Police said he hanged himself but declined to comment on Japanese media
reports that he left five or six suicide notes.

Kyodo said one note was addressed to Abe and that another one with no
addressee said: "I am sorry for causing trouble".

A visibly-shaken Abe told reporters: "I am overwhelmed with shame. I
deeply hope his soul will rest in peace."

Matsuoka, who had repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, had been scheduled to
be grilled again in parliament later on Monday.

Critics had charged that Abe was protecting Matsuoka, and the prime
minister's image would likely suffer in the short term, political
analysts said. But they added that the long-term fallout could depend on
how Abe handled the matter.

PENSION WOES

"It's hard to say what will happen. It depends on Abe's response," said
Jun Iio, a political science professor at the National Graduate Institute
for Political Studies.

"This could make it hard for the opposition to follow up on the scandals,
but it could also give the impression that there was something so bad
that he had to commit suicide."

Opposition leaders expressed shock at Matsuoka's suicide.

"It's regrettable that Prime Minister Abe didn't make (Matsuoka) explain
himself to the public," Mizuho Fukushima, leader of the tiny Social
Democratic Party told reporters. "The prime minister has heavy
responsibility over this."

Japan has one of the highest suicide rates among industrialised nations,
which experts attribute partly to an absence of religious prohibition
against taking one's own life and the tradition of committing suicide to
atone for failure or to save loved ones from embarrassment.

Abe's administration was already under fire after the Social Insurance
Agency, which manages the pension system, acknowledged that it had failed
to keep proper track of 50 million premium payments.

Abe has said his government would try to sort out the problem and ensure
full payments were made, but voters appeared unconvinced.

Only 32 percent of the voters who responded to a weekend survey by the
Mainichi newspaper backed Abe, down 11 points from April, while a poll by
the Nikkei business daily put the prime minister's support rate at 41
percent, down 12 points.

The Mainichi survey showed that 42 percent of the voters want the main
opposition Democratic Party to win the July election, compared with 33
percent who want Abe's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to win.

The LDP and its junior coalition partner, New Komeito, need to win a
total of 64 seats out of 121 up for grabs in the July election to keep
their majority in the 242-seat upper house.

Loss of a majority in the upper house would not require Abe to resign,
since the lower chamber picks the premier. But it could increase calls
within his party to step down and would also mean that the opposition
could block key legislation and delay economic reforms.

Legislative deadlock could force the prime minister to call a snap
election for the lower house, analysts said, although no lower house
election is required until 2009.

Chinese Mandarin - 'Odd process' leads to Van Gundy's exit

Sports / Basketball

'Odd process' leads to Van Gundy's exit

By JONATHAN FEIGEN (Houston Chronicle )
Updated: 2007-05-21 10:18

After four years, 328 regular-season games, 19 playoff games and the best
regular season the Rockets had enjoyed in a decade and perhaps the most
disappointing end in those 10 seasons, Jeff Van Gundy was fired at least
as much because of meetings and phone calls.

Van Gundy was fired, the Rockets announced Friday, because while he
decided whether he wanted to return, they found a coach they liked
better. He might not have been back anyway. He expressed initial, though
temporary, ambivalence about coaching next season. Rockets owner Leslie
Alexander never endorsed having Van Gundy back. But after nearly two
weeks trying to determine who would be Rockets coach, it was the process
general manager Daryl Morey called "odd" that ended Van Gundy's time as
coach.

"I understand it seemed like an odd process," Morey said. "I grant that
it was. It was only out of respect for how Jeff asked for it to be
handled, out of respect for Jeff that I desired for him to be a part of
the organization. I wanted it to end with him back here."

Morey still feels that way, but the split began nearly as soon as the
season ended.

--Sunday, May 6 With a story in the New York Post reporting that Van
Gundy had decided to retire, Morey calls Van Gundy to ask if he had made
a decision. Van Gundy had denied the report publicly minutes earlier and
told Morey he had not even begun considering his future.

"(Morey) called me 12 hours after we lost," Van Gundy said. "I said,
'Really, I don't want to talk right now. We just lost 12 hours ago.' He
came in the very next day and said it would be better for him if I gave
him the answer. He kept fishing."

--Monday, May 7 After meeting with players and the media, Van Gundy
and Morey talk while driving around town and then again in Van Gundy's
office, meeting for nearly three hours.

Van Gundy, having decided to live in Houston regardless of whether he
remained the coach, offers to consider another position with the team.

--Tuesday, May 8 Van Gundy meets with Alexander, Morey and vice
president of basketball operations Dennis Lindsey. Van Gundy tells them
he would return, but would need Alexander's support.

It becomes clear to Van Gundy that Alexander wants a more up-tempo
offensive team, one that Van Gundy does not believe suits the roster.

Van Gundy tells Alexander he should have a coach with whom he agrees.

The Rockets come to take that as a suggestion that they begin a coaching
search while Van Gundy mulls his future. Van Gundy considers it more of
expressing an understanding if they start to look at options and prepare
if Van Gundy does not return.

"I knew my owner had issues with style of play," Van Gundy said. "He
wanted to be faster, Phoenix-like. At that meeting he said, 'Yeah, I do
have issues with that.'

"I said you owe it to yourself to go and search for someone if there's a
better fit. At the same time, I relayed to them that I wanted to stay."

--Wednesday, May 9 Morey reaches Rick Adelman, who is reluctant to
interview for the position Van Gundy holds.

Though Van Gundy had said he would return the day before, Morey tries to
get Van Gundy to commit to coming back without Alexander's endorsement,
which Morey had come to consider a stipulation.

--Thursday, May 10 Morey calls Van Gundy to ask if he could have
Adelman call him. When Adelman reached Van Gundy by phone, Van Gundy
tells Adelman his return to the Rockets is uncertain and that he should
take the interview.

--Friday, May 11; Saturday, May 12 Adelman meets with Alexander and
Morey at Alexander's New York home in the Hamptons. He spends a 3 1/2
-hour drive from the airport talking with Morey, meets through the
afternoon and evening with Alexander and talks again with Morey for 2 1/2
hours on the way back to the airport the next day.

Morey had been collecting data on coaches and considered Adelman's track
record better than any available coach.

By the time Morey and Adelman leave Saturday morning, Alexander is sold.

--Tuesday Morey and Van Gundy speak over the phone, with Van Gundy
reaffirming he wants to return, adding that he has no reservations about
Alexander's endorsement.

Morey tells him he and Alexander have chosen Adelman. Though he tells Van
Gundy he could remain the Rockets coach if the team and Adelman don't
reach an agreement, Morey works to put together a deal on a consultant
position with Van Gundy.

--Thursday Van Gundy and Morey speak throughout the day by phone. Van
Gundy flies to San Antonio to begin preparations for Friday's ESPN
broadcast of the Spurs-Suns game.

By their last conversation, early Thursday evening, talks have broken
down with Van Gundy unsure about accepting the consultant position.

--Friday Morey calls Van Gundy in San Antonio to tell him he needs to
end the process and needs a decision. Morey seeks to call the move to the
consultant position a mutual decision.

Unwilling to accept that stipulation, Van Gundy turns down the position.
By the time they finish the conversation, Morey is determined to end the
uncertainty about Van Gundy's status.

The team prepares an announcement in which the Rockets and Van Gundy
"part ways."

"I was given a deadline," Van Gundy said. "I had to agree by the end of
the conversation to say it was a mutual agreement.

"I appreciate the offer very much. But I was a little disappointed by the
heavy-handedness of the conclusion."

With that, Van Gundy's tenure with the Rockets was over.

Federer shows his clay-court form in win over Almagro

ROME - Roger Federer has stepped up his clay-court training, and it
showed Tuesday.

The top-ranked Federer beat Nicolas Almagro 6-3, 6-4 in the second round
of the Rome Masters, a year after struggling to a three-set win over the
Spaniard.

Federer converted breaks early in each set and faced only one break
point, saving it midway through the first set by kicking a second serve
wide that Almagro returned into the net.

"I wasn't too happy when I saw the draw come out because he's a great
clay-courter and a very dangerous player on any surface," Federer said of
Almagro, who won the clay-court tournament in Valencia the last two years.

"So to come through convincingly in two sets not being broken and both
times racing away with the lead with an early break was perfect."

Federer and the other top seven seeded players had first-round byes.

Jose Acasuso of Argentina joined Federer in the third round after
upsetting eighth-seeded Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia 6-4, 6-3. Ljubicic
committed 33 unforced errors while Acasuso made only nine.

In the first round, former No. 1 Marat Safin overcame a shaky start
before beating American qualifier Amer Delic 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic advanced when 11th-seeded Tommy Haas
retired with a right shoulder injury. Stepanek was leading the 2002
finalist 6-3, 3-2.

Ninth-seeded James Blake eliminated Gael Monfils 7-6 (4), 6-3,
12th-seeded Tomas Berdych beat Jarkko Nieminen 6-4, 7-5 and 13th-seeded
Richard Gasquet defeated Fernando Verdasco 6-1, 7-5.

Also, 2006 Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis saved all eight
break points he faced to knock out 2004 Rome champion Carlos Moya 6-2,
6-3, and 2004 French Open champion Gaston Gaudio reached the second round
by beating Mardy Fish 6-4, 6-4.

Blake's victory avenged a five-set loss to Monfils at last year's French
Open.

"I feel like I've gotten better. Whether or not this one match proves it,
I don't know. But I definitely feel like I've gotten better on clay,"
said Blake, who reached the semifinals of the clay-court tournament in
Houston last month.

After losing the Monte Carlo Masters final to Rafael Nadal in April,
Federer took only one day off before resuming training at home in
Switzerland with hitting partner Jonathan Eysseric, a French junior No. 1.

Federer arrived in Rome more than a week ago for more clay-court
training, and said he has worked out four to five hours per day.

"I'm trying to get into the best possible shape. I've been practicing a
bit harder this year than last year," Federer said.

Federer even played doubles Monday, teaming with Stanislas Wawrinka in a
loss to Nadal and Carlos Moya.

Like last year, Federer is entering the French Open with the chance to
win his fourth Grand Slam in a row. He's never won the French, though,
and won't declare winning Roland Garros his career priority at this point.

"Right now it is. I mean, can you put it over Wimbledon? I guess never,"
he said. "But the French Open is before Wimbledon, thank God, so I can
really focus on the French."

Rome is a key clay-court warmup for Roland Garros, which begins May 27.
