Chinanews, Mar. 2 - Yesterday, the construction contract of the
300,000-ton super Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO)
vessel was signed in Beijing. This will be a made-in-China FPSO with the
largest tonnage, the highest cost, and the most advanced technology.
Yesterday, the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., an affiliate
company of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, and ConocoPhillips China
Inc. (COPC), a subsidiary of ConocoPhillips Petroleum Company, signed the
construction contract at the Great Hall of the People. It indicates that
China's shipbuilding industry has made a breakthrough in the area of
maritime engineering.
The 300,000-ton FPSO being constructed costs over 200 million U.S.
dollar. A large number of advanced equipment will be installed, and the
primary equipment and instrumentation will all be "central control". The
FPSO is over 310 meters long and more than 60 meters wide, with a sea
gauge 29 meters deep and storage capability up to 2 million barrels of
crude oil. It is estimated that the FPSO can be delivered in May, 2007.
On completion, the FPSO will sail for the 11/05 block on the Bohai Sea
Gulf, and serve China National Offshore Oil Corp and COPC, which will
jointly exploit the largest offshore oil field in ChinaCthe Penglai 19-3
Oil Field.
